LINECRAFT PRACTICE NETWORK

Explore real operational questions with the people who work with them.

The Linecraft Practice Network brings practitioners together to explore real operational questions, share experience and turn what we learn into practical resources that can be returned to the wider industry.

Some questions are better explored together.

General aviation contains enormous practical knowledge, but much of it remains within individual operators, roles, regions and personal networks.

The Practice Network creates structured opportunities for pilots, instructors, operators, training and checking personnel, maintenance, safety practitioners and others to compare experience and work through operational questions together.

Linecraft facilitates the conversation. We do not assume the useful answer belongs to us.

Practice Sessions

90-120 minutes

Interactive sessions built around a defined operational question.

Deep Dives

3 hours +

More structured development around specific areas of capability.

Linecraft Briefings

45-60 minutes

Short, focused explorations of practical aviation topics

Industry Conversations

Open facilitated discussions where the purpose is to hear different experiences and approaches - not teach a predetermined answer.

Upcoming Practice Sessions

The First 100 Hours

From licence holder to operational pilot.

What should the first 100 hours of operational flying actually be developing - and what helps those hours become useful experience?

Learning From Normal Operations

What Are We Relying On?

IN DEVELOPMENT

What guides the network?

What Linecraft learns from industry should, wherever possible, find its way back to industry

Useful experience should not stop with the people who happened to be in the room.

People should be able to engage with Linecraft without ever becoming a client and still leave better equipped than they arrived.

What should we explore next?

The Practice Network is shaped by questions arising from real aviation work. If there is a problem, tension or operating question you think deserves a wider conversation, tell us.

Scenario-Based Training: Developing Judgement, Not Just Manoeuvres

Scenario-based training is not simply adding weather, failures and distractions to a flight.

This practical three-hour workshop explores how instructors can design training around the competence they are actually trying to develop—particularly judgement, decision-making, TEM, workload management and non-technical skills.

Who it's for

Flight instructors, instructor trainees, senior instructors, HOTCs, flight examiners and pilots involved in operational training.

What we'll explore

  • starting with competency rather than emergency

  • cues rather than conclusions

  • genuine decision points

  • instructor intervention

  • training versus assessment

  • debriefing reasoning rather than only outcome

  • using the CRAFT framework to design scenarios

Flight instructors discussing a scenario-based training exercise using charts and operational information.

Design the scenario around the competence.

Linecraft CRAFT scenario design framework: Competency, Real-world context, Available information, Forks and friction, Transfer and reflection.

Linecraft Briefings

Short online sessions exploring one practical aviation problem at a time.

Approximately 45 minutes discussion + 15 minutes Q&A

When More Training Isn't the Answer

The Control Worked. Then the Operation Changed.

When Temporary Controls Become Capability Debt

What We Learn When Nothing Goes Wrong

Sun rays breaking through dark rain clouds over a wide landscape with rivers and rolling hills.

Built around the decisions practitioners actually make.

The objective is not to replace professional judgement with another framework.

It is to give practitioners better ways to recognise, discuss and deliberately develop the judgement their operation already depends upon.
